Zeke Lerner Celebrity Bowl-a-thon

The Zeke Lerner Celebrity Bowl-a-thon is a charity event held to raise funds for research and to help the families affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). It was started by a group of volunteers who were fans of the producer Garrett Lerner (Roswell and currently working on House, M.D.). Zeke Lerner, his 8 year old son, was diagnosed with SMA at the age of 20 months.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a hereditary neurological disease in which only the lower motor nerve cells are affected and the manifestation of weakness due to loss of the motor neurons of the spinal cord and brainstem.

Shiri Appleby has shown her support for the cause by attending “Zeke Lerner Celebrity Bowl-a-thon” on February 16th, 2003 as well as on August 26th, 2005. Those events raised $22.000 and $25.000.

‘Celebrity Scarves’ Book

Celebrity Scarves captures the essence of the Hollywood knitting circle by presenting more than 20 scarves designed and modeled by some of today’s favorite leading ladies. From an eyelash muffler to a hybrid hat/handwarmer, each scarf is both unique in design and reflective of the creator’s personality and style.

Besides Shiri Appleby the book includes stars like Jennifer Beals, Leslie Bibb, Rosario Dawson, Nora Dunn, Jennie Garth, Daryl Hannah, Ricki Lake, Bridget Moynahan, Rosie Perez, Parker Posey and many more.

The book’s ultimate goal, however, was more than just sparking interest in a Hollywood hobby. Each scarf was put up for auction, with proceeds benefiting amFAR, a prominent fundraising charity for HIV and AIDS. The scarves were auctioned on eBay from Oct. 6th to Oct. 16th, 2003. At the beginning you could start bidding on Shiri’s scarf for $90. Her product did extremely well and was finally sold for the highest bid $640.
